Allah Poppy Brooch to commemorate the sacrifices of all Muslim soldiers who participated, got injured and sacrificed their lives in both World War I and II. More than 400,000 Muslims fought in the trenches of WWI and still, their sacrifices and deaths are hardly recognised across the globe. With other comrades from the Middle East and India, this part of the world provided more soldiers for the war than most of the other regions who fought against German forces combined. Many of the Muslim soldiers were on the frontline fighting directly against Germans on the Western Front playing a critical role in strengthening the British in the war. The name that stands out from all the other Muslim soldiers is of Khudadad Khan. He was part of the 129th Duke of Connaughts Own Baluchis regiment and this heroic figure was born in the Jhelum District which is now in the Potohar area of Pakistan. Khudadad was one of the first Muslims to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest rank and status a soldier could earn. Khans regiment came directly into action in 1914 at the very beginning of the war in Belgium. The Baluchi regiment - which Khudadad Khan was in - supported the struggling British forces. The Germans heavily outnumbered the two Balochi squads and they invaded them although they fought bravely. Khan ran a machine gun unit whilst the other was destroyed by a bomb attack from the Germans. Khans bravery and determination delayed the German breakthrough. Outnumbered, Khans machine gunners were all overrun and all killed. Khan suffered several injuries and he was left for dead. Badly injured Khan was able to crawl back to his fellow soldiers under the shade of the dark night. Unfortunately, he died that very night. We made this Poppy Allah Brooch to commemorate the sacrifice
